Bedroom Furniture Buying Guide

  1. When selecting bedroom furniture always be aware of your functional needs and the dimensions of your room. For instance many people have walk in closets, and they have professional closet organizational company's, such as closetec, come in and install drawers and shelves in their walk in closets. What this eliminates the need for a chest of drawers or even a dresser. That leaves space in even in a average size room for a boudoir chaise or a love seat or a couple of accent chairs.
  2. Notice I did not mention armoires. These are passe. They were used mostly as T.V. armoires for older style televisions. The industry has come up with a case piece called a media chest. This piece is height appropriate for watching T.V. in the bedroom. It is also functional because it gives you plenty of drawer space. If you do decide on a dresser, be creative and choose an accent mirror that does not match the set but compliments it, a decorative mirror.
  3. Another suggestion not to be matchy, matchy, is not to choose the matching nightstands but to select a contrasting nightstand creating a more interesting and eclectic look for your space.
  4. Don't be afraid of veneers. Years ago ,when veneers were first developed, the industry did not have the technology or the quality epoxy to adhere the decorative wood veneer to the case good piece and that is how veneers got its poor reputation, because the veneer would lift For the most part with better companies, veneers today are safe and quality companies use them to give the wood an appealing design.
  5. Inspect the drawers. The front and rear inside sides should both be dove tailed, at least in the front. That ensures durability and stability to the drawer. Open and close the drawers, to make sure the company used quality glides.
  6. If you like a certain style of bedroom furniture on the floor of a furniture store, ask to see the catalog. If they do not have the catalog, ask for the manufacturers name and collection name and look it up on line. Often there are additional pieces to a collection that the retailer does not show, which you may want to add to make that space more your own personality.
